have an issue with teenage delusion. No matter how often I repeat certain mantras, a teen will invariably give me the same response as if what I said earlier flew from left and right out of the right ear, without sticking anywhere in or on the cranium.
Typical conversation:
Student: Hi, Miss Bramwell, I got into my dream school.
Ms Bramwell: Great!
Student: But I need lots of scholarships to attend.
Ms. Bramwell: Hmmm….what was your SAT score?
Student: 950.
Ms. Bramwell: (Sigh) I said from the beginning, this is a competitive process. Outside of sports and some extraordinary instrument you play (that a university deems of maximum importance), you cannot expect an institution to roll out the red carpet. A flush with full scholarships…
Student: But what about all these scholarships that American students amass, in the thousands and gazillions of dollars…
Ms. Bramwell: Whoa! Magic word…”American”, you are? International. There are limitations to that status. Ergo, the reason we asked you to work hard on SAT so as to show a supreme score. Notwithstanding, you will still earn a place somewhere…but financially, it will be a bit rough, at first.
Student: But I am still applying to UPenn, just in case a miracle happens…
Ms. Bramwell: (Groans)

Early Decision II Update
Dear Sandra, I write to inform you that Early Decision II applicants will be notified of our decisions via their Applicant Status Portals tomorrow evening, Thursday, February 2. Admitted students living in the United States will also receive paper copies of their admission packets via the USPS. Early Decision II Update Boston College reviewed 1,500 completed Early Decision II applications and will offer admission to roughly 30%. A little more than a quarter of applicants will be deferred to the Regular Decision round. Given the strong academic profile and diversity of our Early Decision applicants, we have extended a slightly larger number of offers during the Early Decision rounds. Total Application Volume by Round Total applications to Boston College total approximately 36,500. Early Decision I & II applications have remained consistent with last year’s totals while we have seen a decline in Regular Decision applications. We view this as a normal and healthy correction after two years of record applicant pools, and given our commitment to promote Boston College in a way that does not encourage needless application growth. Application totals by round, are as follows:Early Decision I:2,924Early Decision II:1,505Regular Decision: 32,053Total:36,482 Human-Centered Engineering Update Applications for Boston College’s third cohort of Human-Centered Engineering (HCE) majors total 851. Given the strict enrollment target for this major, we have filled about half of the HCE cohort through Early Decision. 23 of the 50 HCE majors will enroll via Early Decision; the remaining 27 spaces will be filled from a Regular Decision pool of around 800 applications. Applied Physics Major Beginning this academic year, a Bachelor of Science in Applied Physics major was added to the Physics department’s offerings. This interdisciplinary major provides an opportunity for students to study concepts in physics, and utilize this knowledge in addressing society’s greatest needs. This major is a strong fit for students who intend to apply their knowledge of physics in the workforce after graduation. Global Public Health and the Common Good Major Boston College continues its commitment to the sciences with the introduction of the Global Public Health and the Common Good program. The program will enroll 15 majors and 50 minors per year. Prospective students with an interest in the major should apply to the Morrissey College of Arts & Sciences; admission to the major will take place during students’ first year at Boston College. Faculty and students alike share excitement for this interdisciplinary program. Thank you for your hard work and dedication in supporting this year’s seniors through this process. Apply for Aid by March 1
March 1 is the priority deadline to apply for financial aid for the 2023-2024 academic year. We ask that students complete both the FAFSA and CSS Financial Profile to be considered for all types of aid. Students can apply for aid even before they have an admissions decision, and they'll receive information about their aid offer within a few weeks of receiving their admissions decision if they are admitted to Carolina.
Spring Schedule Changes
If your students have applied to Carolina and would like to make a change to their spring schedule, please have them complete the "Schedule Change" form in MyCarolina. Academic rigor is an important factor in our review, and we want to be sure that we have students' up-to-date coursework information. We'll only get in touch with students if we have questions about a change they've made.
Project Uplift Application Deadline
Students can apply for Project Uplift and Uplift Plus now through February 15. Hosted by the University Office for Diversity and Inclusion, these summer enrichment and college access programs provide high school students with the opportunity to experience student life at Carolina and learn more about applying for college and financial aid. Thank you for all you do and the many roles you play in preparing students for college success! As you continue your important work, we'd like to share an academic resource you can offer to rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors to aid them in their path to future achievement.
The University of Chicago’s summer pre-college programs draw from the multidisciplinary emphasis and intellectual richness of the College’s Core curriculum. We offer a variety of courses in diverse subject areas and engagement levels that match any motivated high school student. For Summer 2023, we will host both residential programs and online courses, including:
Enrichment Programs: With enhanced financial support to cover program costs, talented and motivated students have the opportunity to reside on campus and benefit from co-curricular programming to prepare them for the highly selective admissions process while learning about topics like economics, freedom of expression, leadership, or quantum physics. Some programs seek a nomination from a teacher or counselor, so if you know of a talented student who would benefit from an opportunity like this, we invite you to nominate them now!
Immersion: Through workshop discussions, research projects, and other activities, students live on campus and immerse themselves within a specific topic through three-week-long undergraduate-level courses for pre-college students designed by UChicago faculty and instructors. Course subjects include astrophysics, biotechnology, coding, data science, economics, literature, molecular engineering, political science, psychology, and more.
Summer Language Institute: Through this online program, students can learn an entire year of a language in one summer! Whether they want to continue learning a language or pick up a new one, the Summer Language Institute is a great way to delve deeply into another culture and another world and acquire a useful skill. With over 10 languages offered at varying levels, students are sure to find a language that speaks to them.
Outside of the Enrichment Programs, all Summer Session students can apply for need-based financial aid. Enrolled Summer Session students can participate in the Admissions Academy, a series of workshops that focus on the holistic admissions process to provide insights on admissions to highly selective colleges and universities and offer essay writing tips. Students should apply by March 1st for the best selection of courses! To make it easier for you to share information with students, we've also created hand-outs that to print and share so students can learn about either the Enrichment Programs or Summer Session generally. More information about our Summer Session programs and the unique intellectual experiences available to high school students can be found on our website, summer.uchicago.edu, and we're always happy to help answer questions at summersession@uchicago.edu.

Hello Sandra,
We are in the midst of a winter wonderland here at Rock Point School in Vermont. Snow is covering our fields and resting gently on branches. It is a beautiful time of year to sit quietly and reflect or get out and play in the snow. The Burton Chill learn-to-snowboard program is gearing up, as well as an array of outdoor adventures such as weekend ski trips, sledding, winter hiking, and more.
While we may be enjoying winter, we are already thinking about summer! We offer a wonderful 4-week summer session focusing on creativity, outdoor adventures, and a chance to earn academic credit. This summer, our students will:
Participate in activities like skateboarding with Burton CHILL and sailing at the Community Sailing Center
Explore our 130-acre campus on Lake Champlain in Burlington
Work on academic skills with a chance to earn high school credit

About Launch
Launch is a one-week commuter program for rising 9th, 10th & 11th graders interested in taking a hands-on approach to exploring STEM. Students will select a topic of their choice to study in-depth for the full week. Courses are taught by WPI faculty, and include hands-on activities, demos, and discussions.
