Summer Schools



I have been asked to tackle the topic of sumner schools. Why are they important? For whom are they relevant?


Let us explain in this blog.


Summer programs at universities give juniors some notion of college life for 2-3 weeks. Many universities offer them in a two-pronged effort:




1) To focus your attention on their school.


2) To earn college credits


3) To earn letters of recommendation from professors


4) To get a taste of college life.


For weeks on end, if you read the blog and the attachments, you would notice all the invitations to apply to summer schools. Of course, that is a tall order for many who gloss over the blog.



What are the costs? They range from $2000- $15000. Are scholarships available? Yes, you can ask while applying.


Are they subject concentric? Yes. They each have a focal point, some are business related, STEM related, legal related. The fun in doing the research on the courses offered makes the process endearing.



Applying early is key to requesting scholarships to attend for the summer.

Elevate College Prep at Illinois Tech—Chicago’s only tech university and a nationally ranked research university—offers a one-of-a-kind pre-college summer program that sets young learners up for success in college and their careers.


Registration for summer 2023 programs is now open!



Elevate College Prep summer programs provide middle and high school students with hands-on learning, mentorship, and career exposure in STEM and other dynamic fields. Topics include sustainability, next-generation technology, computing and security, game development, cybersecurity, pre-law, robotics, business, architecture, and more.


Options include daytime, online, and residential programs. Students can also take courses that will earn them college credit.

We are always honored and humbled to read what your students choose to share with us, and this year proved to be no different. Your student(s) who applied Regular Decision, or who were deferred at Early Decision, will receive their decision on Tuesday, March 21 at 7:00pm ET. They will receive an email directing them to view the decision on their applicant status page. As their counselor, you also have the option of accessing their admission decision (viewable only after the student views their decision) through our Counselor Connection platform. Counselor Connection also allows you to view what materials have been successfully submitted by your students applying to Tufts. We are writing to inform you that the University of Massachusetts Amherst has extended the admissions policy that does not require first-year undergraduate applicants to submit standardized test scores.


This decision comes after UMass Amherst committed to a three-year pilot test-optional program from 2021-2023.

In the fall of 2021, when UMass Amherst first went test-optional, 69% of undergraduate applicants applied without submitting a standardized test score. As one of the country’s top-30 public research universities, we have tracked both those who submitted and chose not to submit a test score and determined they had similar academic performance and retention rates. Our mission is to identify and recruit students who can grow and thrive at UMass Amherst, progressing to earn their degrees as effectively and efficiently as possible.


Applicants can still submit scores if they choose to, and scores that are submitted will be considered as a part of the holistic application review process. Our test-optional approach applies to all majors.

Reed Grad Named Schwarzman Scholar

Economics major Maxwell J.D. VanLandschoot ’22 was recently named a Schwarzman Scholar, joining a select group of 150 other candidates from across the globe. As part of the program, Maxwell will embark this summer on his newest journey: completing a one-year master’s degree in global affairs at Beijing’s Tsinghua University.


What We Learned at Paideia 2023

Paideia—Reed’s annual festival of learning—took place in January and involved over seventy hands-on workshops led by students, staff, and faculty. Read about eleven things we learned at Paideia 2023, including this fun fact to whet your appetite: Reed was the site of a truly epic food fight in 1965.

Take a tour of Connor’s room in the Russian House and learn about our language house community! Reed has five language houses—Chinese, French, German, Spanish, and Russian—that offer returning students the chance to combine on-campus living with deep immersion in a language.

Greetings from Haverford College!


We want to let you know that we plan to notify regular decision students of their admission decisions on Friday, March 17 at 7 p.m. (ET) via their portal.

Counselors with a Slate.org account can also see a student's decision after a student has reviewed it in their admission portal. As you may know, Slate.org is a free platform for high school counselors that can also be used to see your students’ application checklists and upload missing materials, school profiles, and even midterm grades directly to their records. We also want to highlight Have-A-Look (HAL), our fall fly-in program for prospective students from historically excluded and underrepresented backgrounds in higher education. You can nominate a student for this upcoming program by submitting this form. We will share additional information about HAL in May. As always, all of us in Haverford Admission are so grateful for your colleagueship and the work you do on behalf of these students.

Bryant University, in partnership with PricewaterhouseCoopers, one of the nation’s top accounting firms, will once again host the PricewaterhouseCoopers Accounting Careers Leadership Institute (PwCACLI). The institute will be hosted on Bryant University’s beautiful campus in Smithfield, RI from June 25 to June 30, 2023. PwCACLI is an exciting and educational week-long, hands-on opportunity for students who identify as African American/Black, Latinx, or Native American rising high school seniors (current juniors) to learn more about the accounting profession. Throughout the program, they will work directly with Bryant University faculty, staff, and current students, as well as professionals from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). Program participants will:

  • Understand the role of accountants

  • Spend a day at PwC offices in Boston and meet with business professionals to learn firsthand about daily operations

  • Experience college life by living in a residence hall and utilizing resources at Bryant

Except for transportation (to and from Bryant University), there is no fee to participate in the program. The program will provide overnight accommodations, meals, planned activities, and educational materials. To apply, students must have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA (4.0 scale) and completed at least Algebra 2 by the end of junior year. Follow this link to access the application.
