This is the best of times and the worst of times. Coming out of a pandemic, teens, I believe, are the most frustrated: lack of social contact for two years, online classes (not to everyone’s liking), depression and most important, dystopia- an eerie sense of not knowing where the world is heading.
To top all that malaise, comes school and college decisions! If you are not receiving acceptance letters, the growing dark clouds seem to loom with heavy rain clouds. Also, after much hard work one wonders, why didn’t they select me? It is a subjective game. We cannot preempt decisions!
Here is a better scenario, there are certain students who felt Versan should have made calls and “ensured” their acceptance. We understand the panic, the misunderstood feelings, the ennui. There is nothing new under the sun. We have been here before.
In one given year, a bright young lady had not gained entry to her preferred choice of Harvard or Princeton. Instead, she gained admission to Yale and Stanford. Boy, was she mad and refused to leave her house for a month for having been overlooked by Harvard!
With time, she appreciated Stanford, but not after her season of discontent.
Students, time will teach you to accept the things you cannot change. Good things may await you around the corner! Peace and Love
