HACKS AND CRAZY LOONY TIMES
I know we must be living in some dystopian times. the dark bellwether of political strife, wars, free-for-all...So I literally wake up and call my bank to check on balances, only to discover that the account has been put on hold because it had been hacked! So parents and students, we cannot accept any payments by wire transfer or credit card machines. Until we give some clearance from this office. What a sham!
Then we thought the nightmare was over-not!! Because of the impending elections in the US, we watch MSNBC closely for election results and the latest shenanigans in the US. What happens in our Twilight Zone, the TV fizzles and goes kaput, courtesy of our electricity company. It never ends.
Does calamity strike thrice? I am writing this blog on November 1, 2022. Deadline for many early action deadlines. What do many students do? Wait for the ninth hour to show me essays, applications - even after imploring them to finish early and on time.....oh well.....
Some good news, though...

So some sunshine......
VIRTUAL BOARDING SCHOOL FAIR
On November 1, 2022, we host some US and Canadian schools for those interested in private boarding schools. This will largely be for Wolmer's Girls' and Versan's SSAT students. I encountered these schools while attending the NABSW Fair in London, a few weeks ago. On November 7, we head to Wolmer's Boys to showcase another set of schools. We are using our class link to host the event.
I just think it is halloween and all these weird events keep happening. We pray for all lost souls who perished on account of crime in Jamaica. We pray for safety for all students. And we pray really hard for a Democratic victory (had to slip that in...)
Good luck to my SSAT students who sit their exam on Saturday. Please have your tickets, ID, pencils. Have at least 2 ID's. Take along a snack. Get to test centre early enough. I think you are all ready.
We are hosting a virtual program just for seniors, Apply Yourself: Pomona's Application Process Revealed, on Saturday, November 5, from 9 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. PDT. This program will dive into what makes a great college "fit," how to craft a strong personal essay, and what happens after you hit "submit." If you know of any seniors who might benefit from this program, please share this information with them!
Apply Yourself will include these scintillating sessions (all times are PDT):
Application Case Study (9 -10:30 a.m.) Admissions officers will lead you through our application review process. Learn how difficult our job is!
What Are We Looking For? (10:30-11:15 a.m.) What do we look for, and how do we define "fit"?
Sharing Your Story: How to Approach The College Essay (11:15 a.m.-12 noon) How do we view the college essay, and how can you shine in this requirement?
You've Applied: Now What? (12 noon-12:45 p.m.) What happens after you apply: from the application review process, to who reads your application, and how committee works.
After students register for the event, they will receive a final schedule with a zoom link to the program. Parents may be included in the registration. As always, we invite you to email us with any questions.
