Dear Sandra, We hope this email finds you, your loved ones, and your students doing well. After last year’s challenging admission cycle, we know you and your students have many questions as we navigate the process this year. Below are some important points to keep in mind as you guide your students who may be interested in applying to the University of Miami.

  • The University remains test optional for Fall 2022 applicants.

  • In an effort to increase access to UMiami’s top-tier education, we meet 100 percent of demonstrated financial need for all admitted students.

  • On-campus information sessions and guided tours are open to Fall 2022 applicants. To make visits possible, the Office of Undergraduate Admission is limiting capacity and requiring masks.

  • If students can’t snag a spot for the guided tour, they can always sign up for a Self-Guided Campus Tour.

  • Can’t make it to campus? We continue to offer a range of virtual options for you and your students to get to know the University, our staff, and current students.

  • We’ve put together a series of short videos (linked below) on how to apply. Everything from admission plan options to tips on writing the essay. We hope these are helpful to you, your students, and their families!

Don't hesitate to utilize my colleagues and me as a resource. Visit miami.edu/MeetOurStaff to locate your admission counselor by territory. Sincerely,

Nate Crozier Assistant Vice President Undergraduate Admission and Marketing admissions.miami.edu

Columbia Giving Day is coming up on Wednesday, October 20! After over a year and a half of uncertainty, this inspiring initiative allows us to come together as a community to support the over 500 SIPA international students that have brought the campus back to life.

You are invited to click here today and make your contribution early to help unlock up to $100,000 in challenge funds! SIPA will receive $60,000 when we reach 300 gifts, and an additional $40,000 when we hit our participation goal of 400 gifts!

Please select the SIPA Student Support fund to join with others and collectively change not only the lives of our students but the communities they work in globally. Participation from our international alumni and friends is key to showing that SIPA has emerged stronger than ever.

Dear Colleague,

The college application process has a lot of moving parts. That’s why Reed offers an array of virtual workshops that will help students make sense of the process and polish every part of their application. We hope you’ll encourage your students to join us this October for our virtual events and a chance to step on campus.

  • Fall Visit Program – Visits on October 11, 15, and 16: This is an opportunity for your students to experience what life is like at Reed. They’ll hear from an admission counselor about the Reed experience, take a campus tour with a current Reedie, and admire the stunning fall colors.

  • Application Basics – Tuesday, October 12, at 6 p.m. PDT: Applying to college can feel overwhelming, especially when it comes to the different applications, rounds, and required materials. This session is designed to walk students through the basics and make it clear what they need to complete and when.

  • Writing Your Personal Statement – Thursday, October 14, at 7 p.m. PDT: The personal statement is a student’s conversation with the admission committee and a key component of the application. In this interactive session, we’ll explain the dos and don’ts of the essay and share examples from successful applications to Reed.

  • Understanding Financial Aid – Monday, October 18, at 6 p.m. PDT: Your students have their applications filled out and ready to send. But what about financial aid? Sandy Sundstrom, Reed’s Director of Financial Aid, will explain what financial aid is, how it works, and how to apply.

  • Student Panel – Friday, October 22, at 3 p.m. PDT: This is a chance to hear from the people who know Reed best: our students! Current Reedies will discuss academics, residence halls, student life, clubs, organizations, and Portland. They’ll answer questions live and talk about life at Reed.

  • Application Resources for International Students – Monday, October 25, at 8 p.m. PDT: Do you work with international students interested in attending school in the US? In this session, they’ll learn about the best ways to search for schools from a distance, discuss factors to consider when studying abroad, and get advice on the application process.

  • Is Early Decision Right for Me? – Wednesday, October 27, at 6 p.m. PDT: If your students are excited about a few colleges, but aren’t sure how the application deadlines really work, this is the session for them. We’ll walk through the pros and cons of Early Decision and answer any questions they might have.

  • Case Study of a College Application – Thursday, October 28, at 5 p.m. PDT: What is the admission process like behind the scenes? This event offers an in-depth look at an example application. We’ll talk through what admission counselors are looking for and how different schools make decisions.

We hope you’ll encourage your students to join us this October! Be sure to check our Visits & Events pagefor up-to-date info on all of our events.

Sincerely,

Milyon Trulove
