THE SSAT EXAM WEDNESDAY BLOG

I am truly sorry for the late hour of this blog.  But my time and energy were devoted to the budding SSAT students who sit the exam this Saturday.

Oh how they have worked hard and slaved over their studies, learnt words that could parallel those of the SAT group and oh boy, I wish them luck this Saturday.  Do not forget your IDs, tickets, pencils, a bottle of water and something to eat.

SSAT students, do not forget you are no longer neophytes in the scheme of this exam.  Stay focussed, have your wits about you, manage your time well and by Jove, laugh right through the exam.  Tristan, please do not be skittish and disturb the others nor ask the proctor any ill-advised questions to interrupt the flow of the others in the exam.

Congrats to our Montego Bay Rochelle Foster who made it to Darrow School on a wonderful scholarship!

I was happy to hear from those who are in Maine and Massachusetts at their boarding schools and had left in the midst of winter to pick up their scholarships - it was good to hear from you all and to know you were happy to be where you were.

I overheard a conversation on the radio today and noticed that the interviewee said that parents should note that lives are ruined, if not, destroyed when students are sent away to boarding school too early.

At Versan, we can certainly tell a different story.

SAT

Congrats to Kyle Hamilton who made it into Illinois Institute of Technology.

To the two who made it into University of South Florida - Elizabeth Lee and Latoya Scott.

LSAT

To my LSAT students, set your goals high and congrats to Robyn Lym who has scored three big internships for the summer.  Go Robyn, you still listen to your old teacher!

Wedding Bells

I will not mention the names but I see two past Versan students are about to wed and really, if I look at Versan's history, I realize that this could not be a happier moment.  I had better get the weight lost and the fashionable dress out....

And for three others looming on the horizon, wow!

And to my dinner mates of always who keep the Parent's Circle open and filled with laughter at Chez Marie, please note this is an enriching and enlightening moment for us all whenever we meet.

See you all next week...And to Sonia Kerr who was an invaluable help during our tumultous season of employee temps, we salute you and all that you did for Versan Educational Services.

As educational consultants become outdated by the minute, one would expect students via YouTube, Facebook and all other social media to give superlative performances and write amazing essays.  Do remember that the name of the educational college game is to go to school to do a major that you are passionate about at the least cost possible.

Always find ways to cut cost.  No one wants to see you have debt burdens that make a college education ridiculous and leaves you in peril.

The economies around the world are sliding dangerously into "overdrive" and one knows that most schools are looking for the very best or those who fit in the top 5-10% of their classes.  We do stress at Versan that your score and well-rounded persona are the winning factors.

There are others who are watching the Early Action, Early Decision candidates and wondering how and why they did not go that route?  Well, it does not work for international students as merit and financial aid are not open to us then.

FLAIR ARTICLE ON THE SUN CAR

How many of you read the article on Lauren Chai's foray into the Australian desert with a team from MIT where she is currently studying Mechanical Engineering.  I do admire students who push the bar and enjoy school while going through the drudgery of earning a degree.  It is the practicum that counts....

BLAME IT ON THE GUYANESE WEDNESDAY THURSDAY BLOG

Hello Trinidadian and Guyanese Students:

Yes, I know........the blog is a day late and a dollar short.  I was unable to access WiFi in Guyana to do it in time.  My bad! So blame it on the Guyana's Digicel (smile)...Lime worked wonders in Trinidad, but then no L

It was good to meet with Kristen and her parents, along with Jabari's mom and my law student at UWI Trinidad's law faculty...plans are afoot and the Trini students were not just reveling but completing all their applications.

In Guyana, ok, I was bowled over by the howler monkeys, anacondas, Demerara River, alligators, power of the Rain Forest, poison dart frogs, swarms of mosquitoes, but certainly I was intrigued by all these schoolers with 101's through 15 1's in their CSEC  subjects all from these illustrious schools: Queen's College, St. Joseph's, St. Stanislaus, Marian Academy, (Principal was a former English Language and Literature teacher at Kingston College!) I did not forget Christchurch, Mae's, St. Rose's and Central. Did I fail to mention Bishop's....Jamaica, we have some competition here.

Happy Carnival Trinidad, your steel pans are a mighty force to reckon with and a great self-boost to low self-morale as seen by the kids who played with such virtuosity ....

WARNING FROM WPI
Those students applying to WPI, please submit your MidYear grades now.  This is an urgent request.  It must be sent by the guidance counselor, myself or from the Principal's office.

As a matter of fact, we ask you all to turn in those Christmas grades to all and sundry, all schools applied to...The mailbag goes out every week.  That goes for you too Rashid Chatani...

I am also appalled at students now asking whether the grades from January or December are to go to every school?  But of course!!!!!

INTERVIEWS

Some of you have been called to do interviews with Duke, Princeton,, Brown...a good sign but do remember to be yourselves and smile!!!!

Welcome New SAT students!  We are off to a rollicking start.  The aim is Critical Reading.  And the work has begun there.

I challenge new students to register early for their exams in May. I am encouraged by the large number of Lower VIth students who are doing this exercise as they see it as a complement to their CAPE studies.  Kudos to you and guess what?  You get 3 attempts at the exams SAT I and II!  So there to those starting in July...the early birds catch the worms.

They are also actively applying to their summer programs and again I say "Whoopee" to their endeavours.
