What a whirlwind of a weekend. Apart from a momentous feeling of national Jamaican pride in our athletes and 50th Anniversary as an independent democracy, I wish to salute the school that invited me to the back-lots of Universal Studios where students complete feature films, do digital animation, editing and sound for films, screen-writing, cinematography, acting and a myriad of things that made me feel George Lucas and Steven Spielberg are smiling about their efforts.
It is no coincidence that one of their graduates has had her film optioned by Fox Studios, look out for it, it is called "The Fix" with many big-name actors and actresses. What is amazing is that the cineaste is a young African-American woman.
I had fun giving out ideas on my tour, only to have the Cinematography professor say send me a one page description, I will think about doing this in the future. I also received many tips on cameras, lighting, scripts from seasoned professionals.
Eating at Mr. Chow's off Rodeo Drive courtesy of the school and meeting the stars was also a bonus. I was thrilled by the glitterati and thought if this is Hollywood and most of the professors are seasoned in a three year Bachelor's and 1 year Master's program? What else could a student ask for?
I saw that the upcoming Rashida Jones (daughter of Quincy Jones) was a graduate and most of you ought to be seeing her in several blockbuster films...and I could name drop all night..
The Provost of the School will be coming to Jamaica for our Annual Recession Proofing Symposium on September 15, 2012 and will be at UWI Mona Visitor's Lodge as one of our featured guest speakers. You should check out the promos...and the power point presentation being readied for Jamaica...
An interesting week and for those returning from the break, welcome back and look forward to tests!!! Aargh, back to the drawing board.
Pictures to follow of LA!!!!
