THE ROAD TO EXCELLENCE WEDNESDAY BLOG

AWARDS, GRADUATIONS AND RECEPTIONS

I attended the St. Andrew Rotary Installation of a New President Banquet and was thrilled to see the Bramwell triplets honored (no relation to me, tis a pity!) and realized that humility, hard work and perseverance always pays off.  These girls possessed a drive and optimism bar none.  Amidst the opulent meal and a regal invitation by the outgoing President of the St.  Andrew Rotary, Robert Drummond, I myself was impressed with my award for assisting these girls.  Kudos to the team that assisted them , Mr. Drummond's assistants and the toil and labour that was poured in by all!!!

The Chai Story: The Road to Excellence

I met  the twins by proxy when their mother told me after they had won Best students All-Island GSAT for Immaculate High School.  At ages 10, I was ordered not to leave Jamaica as I had to plan their educational careers that would include boarding school and then college, even the graduate process.

I met Elaina and Lauren a few years ago and assisted them into getting into Kent School in Connecticut. Both had been Valedictorian and Salutatorian in their fifth form year group.

At Kent, they realized that their illustrious high school career had been out done at Kent.   They struggled to write concisely and coherently under their pert and grammatically perfect English teacher.  The burden of carrying Advanced Placement classes also weighed in with my "behind-the-scenes-prodding", but they prevailed, becoming the recent graduates of Kent who were enrolled at MIT, the second in sixteen years in the history of Kent School.  I can assure you the experience at Kent recreated my pair of twins.  Both were in love with the sciences, but what I know, is that a boarding school experience does far more than keep you myopically placed.  Elaina turned out to be a prolific artist and traveller (Switzerland and Egypt) while Lauren produced a book of short stories, published, I might add.  I had the Renaissance twins...

So my journey continues with the twins to MIT.  I allowed them to take it easy the first semester and acclimatize.  But then I put the pressure on and started watching the GPA.  They reported in as usual, our trend from Immaculate to MIT, the journey.  I monitored the courses, but most importantly, their persnas were being defined and their majors.  Elaina managed an internship in Switzerland for Physics while Lauren dabbled in her Mechanical Engineering.

The end result: Internships matter in undergrad starting Freshman Year.  I now know that I missed their Graduation, but they know I am there in spirit and owe them dinner!  (They will hold me to that!)  And Elaina continues on at MIT as a research assistant and will pursue her Master's... while Lauren is working for Exxon in Texas and then on to Germany....Congratulations!!!!!!

Need I say, her parents remain devout Versan facilitators for prospective clients, parents and are at every function showing the pitfalls and successes of taking the path to overseas study.

Versan salutes its progenies!!!!!!!
