Post Midnight Wednesday Blog

I am sorry this blog got off past midnight. Who can miss the State of the Union address? I await salient responses on what you thought were the highlights. ANyway, hence the delay in putting the blog out.

I returned from New York learning several key lessons:getting into a school requires much emotional release:being admitted, seeing to housing, opening a bank account, going through immigration, reviewing financial aid, paying your initial deposit, getting a US cellphone, meeting your new room-mate---a chore in deed. So to all my reccently enrolled Spring 2010 applicants who just started school-have a great semester and stay focused!

To our growing list of recently admitted students, we hail:

Rushell Reid- Bryant University
Giselle Reynolds - Averett University
Nicolette Yee - Montana State University
Nicolette Yee - Florida Institute of Technology
Zakeea Ayton-Wright -High Point University

And yes, all were offered financial aid and scholarships.

May the list continue to grow long. We will be on Morning Time on February 3rd. Look out for our new Manager on screen and cheer her on!

See you next Wednesday!

New Member of Staff:

Let's welcome Ms. Kris Ann Steele as new General Manager of Versan Educational Services. She hails from New York with a recent Master's in Math Education. So, though a Manager she will be overseeing how our Maths is delivered. Stop by and welcome her to the program.

Community Colleges and Related CUNY Schools in NYC:

The average cost is US$5000 annually. Cost effective especially if you have relatives in the city. Administrations a bit out of whack, definitely schools that you have to check up on daily. But worth the cost in an environment like this recessionary period.

Credentials Service for Transcripts:

Yes, I see that a few of you have received notification about having your transcripts evaluated. Please download the application for this from World Education Services. You may Google this. Note that some schools may simply need your CXC and CAPE certificates and not the transcripts. Check with each school for that requirement. Always send official transcripts, faxes are not accepted.

See you all next Wednesday. Hope some of you got a chance to see the Campion play "Cindy" where a few of our students were participating.

Versan extends its condolences to the people of Haiti and urges its students to send packets to Red Cross. Bottled water, clothing, band-aid et al, do find a center and give what you can.

For those following me on twitter, thanks.

Community Colleges/Two-Year programs
In trying to place a student this Spring 2010, I have come to the realization that community colleges have become a stronghold for many in the US since this global economic stagnation. many are turning to this venture as it costs less and has much financial aid to offer its applicants. I was of the assumption that these schools would have been open for enrollment and quite easy to access. To my dismay, this revelation has proven the opposite. They are full, closed with a long waiting list. Let's not discount these in our quest for schools overseas.

On that note, Cottey College in Missouri is visiting Jamaica and their admissions recruiter Rick Eber is staying at the Hilton Hotel. He leaves Jamaica tomorrow and I highly recommend his two year program for young women. Currently, there are six Jamaican girls there and I can strongly hint that all they are paying is US$1500 for the year. Academically, the students do well and seque easily into recognized universities to complete their BA degrees.

Also, another bit of interesting news, College Portraits, (please google) is a new enterprise that is free of cost and giving much data on your colleges, please check out.

Happy to see everyone coming in to complete their CSS Profiles, PFS, FAFSA and financial aid documents.

SSAT candidates:

I am doing the Albert College tests on Saturday at 9 a.m. so those interested, please show up to take.

have a great day and pay attention to Earthquake Awareness week details. Jamaica was merely lucky this time around.

Happy New Year! We landed safely within the confines of 2010, I hope!

So, it is time to go to those souvenir shops and purchase all those cards that bespeak sun, sand and white sandy beaches. There is an arctic freeze in the United States and I want all of you who have submitted applications to show vested interest by sending in the cards to confirm that your packets are there and do they need anything else?

For those seeking another school for Actuarial Science, please stop by the office and take a deep look at Queens University of Charlotte-their merit scholarships (hint!), have also shot through the roof.

Purchase University of the State University of New York has just sent in a ton of literature and I am most impressed with their visual arts and performing program. For the talented opera singers, musicians, film makers, screenwriters and thespians!

SSAT Group

If you need a solid boarding school in the Utah area where scholarships are teeming, where our Jamaican Bobsled team are in training, where five of our Jamaican students are about to graduate.

The school is Wasatch Academy.

I also wish to showcase Fryeburg Academy in Maine-another quiet storm. Shattucks St. Mary is for the overachiever who wants a challenging environment...Please check out.

LSAT

To our Lorette who scored 169 out of 180-Congrats! Law schools are going to be appreciative.
