U.S. Embassy Warns Against Fradulent Visa Appointments and Other Visa Scams

The U.S. Embassy in Kingston is warning the public against using so called "visa-fixers" to obtain fradulent visa appointments and other visa scams, such as guaranteeing that a visa will be issued. Memebers of the public are being forewarned that the embassy is aware of these scams and that those who use them may be banned from ever receiving a visa to visit the U.S and will be reported to the Jamaican authorities for criminal prosecution.

Applicants must schedule visa appointments online at: https://evisaforms.state.gov/default.asp?postcode=KNG&appcode=3 . This is an electronic calendar that will show available dates and times.

Also applicants should aviod people or businesses that claim to be able to schedule "expedited" appointments, since the embassy's appointment calendar is tamper-proof. Any applicant needing emergency appointment should follow the procedures listed at http://kingston.usembassy.gov/visa_services.html . No applicant should ever pay anyone to obtain an appointment (including emergency appointments) on the embassy's electronic calendar. For emergency appointments, the embassy will contact the applicant directly.

The embassy warns that one sure sign that an applicant is being scammed is the payment of money for an appointment or guarantee of a visa. The embassy warns that no individual or business can gaurantee that a visa will be issued and anyone who believes that a travel agent or individual is providing questionable services is urged to inform the embassy at kingstonvisas@state.gov .

Farewell Ceremony A Success!!

We hosted a fantastic Going-Away Celebration for students leaving to attend school abroad in the coming Fall semester. Approximately 250 parents and students filed into the glamorous Les Ambassadeurs Ballroom on the 18th floor of the Hilton Kingston hotel, and we began with a prayer by Mrs. Bramwell-Riley. We were right into the swing of things as our Master of Ceremonies Rainier Goubault; lead us through our programme smoothly. Our student speakers: Lauren and Elaina Chai were extremely impressive. As past students of the Kent boarding school in CT, they are looking forward to attending M.I.T. in the fall. In recounting their highs and lows in boarding school, they gave sound advice, and tips for excelling in school socially, academically, and practically.

Joan Davis Williams presented on Social Skills, encouraging us all to brush up on our social graces. She also had a booth at the back of the room for students interested in enrolling in Etiquette classes.

The Bank of Nova Scotia and The Math Clinic also had booths at the back of the room; they spoke to how useful the services they provide are and gave out contact information for further consultation.

We were thoroughly entertained by the musical genius of Joshua and Jhenelle, serenading us with their duet on the violin. Master violinist Joshua Yap serenaded us with his two solo performances.

Our director, Mrs. Bramwell-Riley delivered her Farewell Speech to the outgoing students. She also spoke about the “College Checklist”, which are the list of items she thinks students need to live comfortably aboard. After her presentation, we were lead into our awards ceremony, which included prizes for both our students and parents.

Shauna Myers delivered the Vote of Thanks and led us into our Music and Food Festival Bash, where students and parents mingled among themselves.

P.S. If you weren't at the Farewell Ceremony please come into the office to pick up a "College Checklist" handout.
